The Slovenian national final is called EMA and it had various qualification rounds, also the “EMA Freš” where young newcomers could get in. That’s how the group LPS joined this year’s event and were able to receive the highest points. An interesting fact is that the Slovenian jury consisted of different theme groups: musicians, songwriters, radio, television and fan club, these votes have been combined with the public votes (televotes). At the end LPS gained the ticket for Turin.
The LPS of the band name stands for “last pizza slice” exists since 2018. The five group members met in school and decided to found a group. In the meanwhile they have been playing on many concerts and festivals in Slovenia. With their participation in the EMA and now being the Slovenian representatives opens the doors for the international music market. The band consists of Filip Vidušin (vocals), Gašper Hlupič (drums), Mark Semeja (electric guitar), Zala Velenšek (bass, tenor and alto saxophone) and Žiga Žvižej (electronic keyboard).
The music style of LPS is a mix of retro, soul-pop, funk, blues, rock and jazz. The band has recorded several songs, here you can have an impression of their music:
The ESC song “Disko” is cool retro-styled song played in an imaginable dance hall with a live playing dance band. The story of the song is actually about a situation on the dancefloor, where the singer Filip melts away with the good disco music and later being dumped by his girlfriend. This kind of music in Eurovision will bring the audience to dance.

For Slovenia it will be the 27th time at the Eurovision Song Contest this year. In the year 1993 there has been the first international pre-decision for the ESC, which was held in Ljubljana. The participating countries in this special show were Estonia, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Slovenia. Only three songs could qualify for the ESC in Millstreet, Ireland, those were Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia.
The debut song for Slovenia was called “Tih Dezeven Dan” by 1X Band only reached the 22nd place in Millstreet. Nevertheless the participation of Slovenia brought a huge public interest.
As one of the former ex-Yugoslav countries, Slovenia can look back to an additional 27-years-old history of Yugoslavian entries, where one victory with “Rock me” by Riva in 1989 could be celebrated, which was actually a Croatian band. The Slovenes have participated since then with great enthusiasm and put every effort in well-chosen songs of high quality with an international standard. And the interest seems to increase from year to year. The best placing was two time the 7th place so far “Prisluhni Mi” by Darja Svaiger and “Energy” by Nusa Derenda.
Slovenia is the only country from the ex-Yugoslav countries which does not benefit from the “Balkan Block Voting” like Croatia, Serbia, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia & Herzegovina. Since the Semi Finals have been introduced in 2004, Slovenia could only qualify six times out of fifteen. Last time the special Slovenian entry “Amen” performed by Ana Soklič could not reach the Grand Final of Rotterdam.
There is a funny parody of all Slovenian entries by the popular comedian Klemen Slakonja.
