This year San Marino had a national final called “Una Voce per San Marino”. Last year San Marino could reach the Grand Final from Rotterdam and furthermore Italy has von the ESC. These are good reasons to make more effort as a neighbouring country. This phenomenon could often be noticed. The charismatic singer Achille Lauro, who has previously taken part in the Sanremo Festival with “Domenica”  and reached a 14th place. With the song “Stripper” he took part in San Marino and won!

Achille Lauro’s real name is Lauro De Marinis and was born in Verona, 1990. He has always been a very eclectic and peculiar. Influence by his older brother he started record is first mixed tapes. By now Achille Lauro has released 2 EP’s, 6 albums and many singles. His music style can be described as a mix of underground rap and punk rock. The multitalented singer is also an actor, artist, author and film director. He has participated in the Italian Sanremo Festival for three times:

• “Rolls Royce” in 2019, 9th place

• “Domenica” in 2022, 14th place 

The most striking thing is his looks and attitude. So Achille Lauro will definitely be noticed at Eurovision. The Italians know him very well, so there will be high votes flying from Italy to San Marino. The noticeable title “Stripper” with the compatible lyrics will tell the whole story:

The song is striking as well, rocky and edgy and will definitely enthuse the audience in the PalaOlimpico.

San Marino has joined the Eurovision Song Contest in the year 2008, so this year it is going to be the 12th entry for the ESC. With the song “Complice” by Miodio, San Marino made a wonderful debut. Unfortunately, San Marino came last – a truly undeserved 19th place in the Semi Final for the debut year. The biggest success so far is Serhat’s “Say na na na” in 2019, San Marino qualified for a Grand Final for the second time, beside of Ralph Siegel’s composition “Maybe”, sung by Valentina Monetta in Copenhagen 2014. Last year all hopes were laying on Senhit and “Adrenalina”, which has been not doing as well as expected. There were almost no votes from the televoters, only 13 points. Senhit expected to win.

It’s great to see that San Marino is so eager to participate in the ESC without having a big lobby like other countries. Due to the small amount of inhabitants, the representatives often try to participate a second time. Of course in such a small country with only 32.000 inhabitants the local music scene is not very big, this is dominated by the Italian music market. Therefore foreign composers have been invited mainly Ralph Siegel, who has composed five songs for San Marino in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017. And if this would not be interesting enough, Ralph’s muse Valentina Monetta had four trials. Valentina is the only person recently who had the chance to travel to four ESC’s from Baku over Malmö to Copenhagen, Vienna and Kiev.

In recent years also other micro states tried their luck in the ESC like Andorra and Monaco. None of them reached the Grand Finals unfortunately. And Luxembourg has quit the ESC in 1993 with the last entry.

It was always said if San Marino is going to win the ESC someday the contest will be held in the Italian neighbour city Bologna.
