Introduction
In San Marino all the former singer will come back! So it will be the case this year. Lovely Senhit has already represented San Marino back in Düsseldorf 2011 with “Stand By”, where she did not pass the semi-final. With a surprise, Senhit was selected last year to do it again. Her song “Freaky!” has been the official song for Rotterdam. But the Corona pandemic made the ESC impossible. Fortunately, Senhit will also go this year with the new song “Adrenalina”, a smash hit and a bit fan favourite already.
Senhit, who is born in Bologna, Italy, 1979 has Eritrean parents. She is a commercial artist and has played the lead characters in musicals like “The Lion King”, “Hair” and “Fame”. Senhit has released three albums and lately an EP called “Hey Buddy”. Her music style has specified on electro pop, this can be heard in her EP very well. Senhit has been touring through all over Europe performing the most popular clubs from Manchester to Berlin.
Have a look at Senhit’s songs:
This year’s entry “Adrenalina” has been written by a big international team: Thomas Stengaard, Joy Deb, Linnea Deb, Jimmy Thörnfeldt, Kenny Silverdique, Suzi Pancenkov, Malou Linn Eloise Ruotsalainen, Chanel Tukia, Senhit Zadik Zadik and Dillard Tramar. It seems that the ambitions are quite high this year and everything has been put on one card. Judging by the video clip, the song has a very oriental touch, it could also be the entry from Azerbaijan. The lavish produced clip is really worth to watch, a lot colours and different scenes are combined in a dreamy garden and tired party guests. There is a Rn’B influence, a rap part and the crazy Senhit is shown in all possible outfits and colours. Obviously Senhit has enjoyed the filming a lot. The song is about the physical attraction of two people:
We’re like fire and gasoline
Come and light it up with me
So high on ADRENALINE
You’re my ADRENALINA!
With such an enthusiasm and energy a place in the Grand Final should be deserved!
History
San Marino has joined the Eurovision Song Contest in the year 2008, so this year it is going to be the 11th entry for the ESC. With the song “Complice” by Miodio, San Marino made a wonderful debut. Unfortunately, San Marino came last – a truly undeserved 19th place in the Semi Final for the debut year.
Thanks to Serhat’s “Say na na na” last time in 2019, San Marino qualified for a Grand Final for the second time, beside of Ralph Siegel’s composition “Maybe”, sung by Valentina Monetta in Copenhagen 2014.
It’s great to see that San Marino is so eager to participate in the ESC without having a big lobby like other countries. Due to the small amount of inhabitants, the representatives often try to participate a second time. Of course in such a small country with only 32.000 inhabitants the local music scene is not very big, this is dominated by the Italian music market. Therefore foreign composers have been invited mainly Ralph Siegel, who has composed five songs for San Marino in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017. And if this would not be interesting enough, Ralph’s muse Valentina Monetta had four trials. Valentina is the only person recently who had the chance to travel to four ESC’s from Baku over Malmö to Copenhagen, Vienna and Kiev.
In recent years also other micro states tried their luck in the ESC like Andorra and Monaco. None of them reached the Grand Finals unfortunately. And Luxembourg has quit the ESC in 1993 with the last entry.
It was always said if San Marino is going to win the ESC someday the contest will be held in the Italian neighbour city Bologna.
