Introduction
Last year Bulgaria paused in the Eurovision Song Contest, despite of outstanding songs and rankings in recent years. The Bulgarian broadcaster BNT has made an internal selection, where VICTORIA has been announced to represent Bulgaria in Rotterdam. Unfortunately, the ESC this year has been withdrawn, but VICTORIA has been already confirmed for 2021.
VICTORIA, whose real name is Wiktorija Georgiewa was born in Varna in 1997. In the age of eleven she started to sing and joined a choir. In the year 2011 she urgently wanted to take part in the X Factor Bulgaria show, but she was not successful. She needed three more attempts to come into the live shows in 2015. Have a look at her performance.
In 2016 VICTORIA signed her first record contract. Nowadays she is one of the most hopeful singers in her country. These video clips of her songs are worth to watch:
The song “Tears Getting Sober” is probably the strongest ballads of this year’s participants, a wonderful melody with a dreamy chorus, which is really catching the listener’s hearts. The song is about getting over fears and pain and going on with strength. The composers are no less than Symhonix, with whom VICTORIA composed this song. Symphonix are composers directed by Borislav Milanov, who has also been involved in several ESC successes and this year’s entries of Germany and Malta.
History
Bulgaria would have taken part 13th time in the Eurovision Song Contest, but the ESC 2020 has been cancelled. Recently Bulgaria has developed a really good and successful way. Since 2016 Bulgaria could always reach the Grand Finals and made on 2nd and one 4th place. That’s an impressive upgrading in music quality and singing.
The Bulgarian debut entry “Lorraine” by Kaffe was a wonderful song and unfortunately this entry has not qualified for the Grand Final in Kiev. Since then Bulgaria is mostly trying to participate but paused 2014 - 2015. The neighbour country Romania has already joined the ESC family in 1994.
The biggest success so far was the performance of Kristian Kostov with “Beautiful Mess” – a great entry, which was very close to victory as never before, at the end Kristian made a very good 2nd place. The year before Poli Genova made made a 4th place in Stockholm. And not to forget the extraordinary percussion performance “Water” by Elitsa Todorova & Stoyan Yankulov in Helsinki 2007, they made a great 5th place.
Bulgarian entries showed different music styles over the years. Unfortunately, not all songs matched the European taste. If there is an international production like the three times, the chances for a good placing are a lot higher.
