Introduction
The Serbian broadcaster has made an internal selection as many other countries this year. The choice felt to the young singer named Tijana, who has already been on the Eurovision stage as a backing singer in Düsseldorf 2011, supporting Nina and the song “Čaroban”, which came 14th.
For Tijana a big comes true, to represent her country at Eurovision as a solo artists. She was born in Novi Sad in 1981 and has fallen in love with music at a very early age. One day she has been discovered by the Serbian singer and songwriter Vlado Georgiev, who took her as a background singer for his concerts through the region and studio recordings. In 2009 Tijana has tried to qualify in the Serbian national final Beovizija with the song "Pazi šta radiš", but only made the 17th place. In 2010 she released her song “Tražim” (Searching), in 2013 “Cudo” and in 2014 a duet with Aleksa Jelic "Jos jednom”. Tijana live in the USA now, nevertheless she is happy to come back to Europe to represent her home country on the Eurovision stage.
The song “In Too Deep” is modern love song about falling in love. The video clip shows a lot of passion for the detail and Tijana appears like a femme fatale in a cycle accompanied by young and sexy dancers. The chorus is dominant and memorable. There are the same composers (Borislav Milanov, Bo Persson, Johan Alkenas and Lisa Ann-Mari) like last year for Bulgaria’s “If Love Was A Crime” by Poli Genova, who made a 4th place in Stockholm. This could be taken as a good omen. Together with the Tijana’s ESC stage experiences, Serbia will be a strong and convincing contender again.
History
This year it’s going to be the 10th time for Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest as an independent country. Congratulations! From 2004 until 2005 is was formally known Serbia & Montenegro and participated as one country. Montenegro also debuted independently in the same year of 2007. In the ESC history the former Yugoslavia took part 27 times and could achieve one victory with “Rock Me” by Riva in 1989 in Lausanne. The debut year of Yugoslavia was 1961.
In the year of 2007 Serbia had its debut as independent country and there was one girl from Serbia who has captured the European hearts by a storm - Marija Šerifović. Her power ballad “Molitva” was the big favourite from the beginning. With the incredible and touching stage performance she could overwhelmingly win the ESC. The year after Serbia had the honour to host the ESC for the first time in the capital of Belgrade. It was a terrific show with one of the most beautiful ESC stages at that time. It made not only the Serbians proud, also the neighbour countries provided good entries.
The Serbian songs were mostly quite successful, out of 9 participations so far they could qualify for the Grand Final (78% chances) seven times and achieved Top10 ranks for four times, that’s a chance of 44%. We also need to mention Željko Joksimović here as he has put the most effort in the Serbian success in the recent years and even beyond. He composed, sang his entries for Serbia & Montenegro as well as Serbia and also hosted the ESC in Belgrade 2008.
