In the national Moldovan final called “O Melodie Pentru Europa" the most convincing winner were the funny guys from Sunstroke Project, who have already represented Moldova back in 2010 with “Run Away” and made the 22nd place in Oslo. It’s great to see those guys back in the ESC as they have brought really good groves in Oslo, and they will certainly do in Kiev.

All the band members come from the Moldovan capital Chisinau and these are Sergey Yalovitsky (vocals), Anton Ragoza (violin) and Sergey Stepanov (saxophone). The saxophonist Sergey has become very popular and is well known under the name "Epic Sax Guy". The typical sound of this formation is the saxophone combined with a cool dance beat. The group has toured through many clubs especially in Odessa, Ukraine and Moldova. By now they do have their own sound studio and record company Ragoza Music. Over the past years they have toured in over 30 cities and 40 clubs all over Europe.

The Moldovan entry “Hey Mamma” is a nice pop song with a really cool grove and the band has invented a special choreography. This has something special and has a certain coolness. They know what they do and are quite confident in their entry. This song will definitely stick out of the others as it’s danceable and will force people to dance and enjoy the Eurovision party. Great to see so much enthusiasm. They deserve to be in the Grand Final in Kiev.

Moldova had its debut in the year 2005 with the extraordinary punk rock song “Boonika Bate Toba” by Zdob si Zdub. Remember the funny grandma in her swing-chair – that was truly unique! The band is very popular beyond the borders of Moldova, in many other ex-Soviet states this band enjoys a huge success. This also led to a respectable 6th place in Kiev, not bad for a debut entry. This was the best place Moldova could achieve so far in the Eurovision Song Contest.

This year it will be the 14th time for Moldova in the ESC in Kiev, the place where it all has started for Moldova. The enthusiasm in this country is very high and has grown from year to year. The Moldovan broadcaster TRM is organizing a national final every year. So far the Grand Final could be reached 8 times and a Top10 place for times that makes a realistic likelihood of 15% to accomplish a Top10 position.

Moldova is also profiting from the neighbour countries votes, Romania and Ukraine were always very generous with their points and vice versa. The Moldovan entries have often been modern with a folkloristic character or an element. Unfortunately, the last three years Moldova could not qualify for the Grand Final anymore.
