Every year there is the prestigious Albanian music festival “Festival I Këngës”, where the Albanian entry for the ESC is being determined. The show is also using a big concert orchestra and the songs for ESC are being revamped afterwards with a new modern international version and the lyrics are changed into English as well. The winner of this year is Endeda Tarifa with the song “Përrallë “ which is now made into “Fairytale”.

Eneda Tarifa was born in Tirana in 1982. Early she was interested in singing and studied philosophy and sociology. Eneda already participated in the Albanian music festival several times in 2003 with “Qëndroj” and 2007 with “E para letër“. She also took part in other music festivals. Eneda has also become a TV personality having her own satire show Portokalli. She is married to the musician Erion Zaloshnja and has a daughter. She has also been in the critics about uttering badly about Conchita Wurst’s victory in 2014.

The song “Fairytale” is an edgy song with a complicated melody, which is difficult to follow by first hearing. Even if the original version has been worked over the song does not stay in people’s mind immediately. There is a lot of drama and long notes and of course the song is about love. Let’s see if the juries and TV spectators also fall in love with this song in Stockholm.

It has been the 54th time of the Festivali i Këngës - the Albanian music festival. This event is also taken as national pre selection for the Albanian songs for Eurovision since Albania joined the ESC in 2004 with a respectable 7th rank in Istanbul with “The image of you” by Anjeza Shahini. Last year in Vienna, Elhaida Dani could reach the Grand Final with “I’m Alive” and made a 17th place. So this year it’s the 13th time for Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm. So far out of 12 participations for Albania, the Grand Final has been reached seven times and a Top10 placing for 2 times, the chance for a Top10 position is at approximately 15%.

Albanian music is not that well known across the European continent, therefore the Eurovision Song Contest is a great opportunity to get a worldwide audience. The songs from Albania in the ESC have always preserved the traditional roots with folkloristic elements, even in modern songs there is a traditional part that gives the special Albanian touch. The difficulty is to make popular Albanian music accessible for European ears. In the Albanian pre selection the songs are normally longer than three minutes, therefore they are shortened to suit the ESC standard and sometimes it will be exchanged completely like last year.
