Introduction

The new Latvian selection show is called “Supernova” formerly known as Dziesma. Within several shows it all finished in great super final with four finalists. It can be said that the style of music was quite experimental and unusual. At the end Aminata Savadago could convince the jury and the televoters.

Amanita Savadago was born in Riga, Latvia in 1993. She has a Latvian mother and a father from Burkina Faso. In the age of 13 she started playing the flute and attended singing lessons. Aminata’s biggest dream to be on stage with an own composition. This dream has come true now with the qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest.

At the moment Aminata is studying economics at the University of Riga. She always followed her musical career as well, while participating for several television and music projects such as the TV show “Krodziņā pie Paula” with the age of 15. She also won the Latvian show “Jaunā Talantu Fabrika” (New Talent Factory). Last year she came fifth in the Latvian selection show Dziesma with the song “I Can Breathe”.

Aminata has an extraordinary stage appearance with her beautiful look, styling and exceptional voice. The song “Love Injected” is a very special song, composed by her own. The style can described as independent electro music with dub step elements. This kind of music has an international format which might do well in Vienna. This will be an outstanding song in the 60th anniversary of the ESC.

In the short history of Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest, the biggest success came in the third year after the debut. In 2002 Marie N. could convince the juries and televoters with „I wanna“. The following ESC 2003 took place in the wonderful city of Riga. Latvia describes itself as “the land that sings” which origins in the long singing tradition which takes place in singing festivals all over the country. This can also be said from the neighbour country Estonia. The best ranks could be reached by “My star” by Brainstorm in 2000 (3rd) and “The war is not over” by Walter & Kleins in 2005 (5th).

In the last six years Latvia could not reach the grand final anymore, even if the Latvian songs seem to be contemporary. Compared to the more successful neighbour Estonia, Latvia has not found its clear successful line back again; all Latvian entries are totally different from each other. Even if the Latvians love to sing, but obviously don’t hit the European taste unfortunately. Even last year's happy song "Cake To Bake" did not make it to the Grand Final. Latvia could only qualify eight times for the final within 16 participations and reached the Top10 three times. The chances to reach a Top10 position is 19% for Latvia.
