Introduction

The Montenegrin broadcaster RTCG has made an internal selection like last year and announced the singer Sergej Ćetković quite early. In a TV show from Budva the song has been presented to the public, which is called “Moj Svijet” which means “My World”.

The 37 years old singer from Podgorica is very a very popular musician and is well known in all the Balkan countries. His love to music has started in early years has come to music at a very early age. His singing career he started in 1998 with the song “Bila Si Ruža” in a music festival. The first album of Sergej called “Kristina” which was release in 2000 made him popular in Montenegro and beyond. In 2004 Sergej participated in the Beosong and came 8th, when Željko Joksimović made the race with “Lane Moje”. By now he has released five albums.

The song “Moj Svijet” has been written by himself – as well as the lyrics - and it has a very romantic and melodic melody with some sad notes as well sung with a lot of passion. The music style can be compared with the music of Željko Joksimović. Sergej said that he won’t change his style for Eurovision and keeps on doing what he is always doing. The very nicely made video clip should symbolize Sergej as a child catching the sun. In a press conference Sergej said “The rhythm is being dictated by the song; that exists only in contours at this moment”.

In the last two years the Montenegrin entries were very modern and maybe surprised many viewers. This year the entry is much smoother and more traditional as what people might expect from this country. With this song Montenegro will have strong chances to enter the Grand Final in Copenhagen for the first time. Unfortunately, there are only two ex-Yugoslav countries participating this year, and even not in the same semi final as Montenegro. Due to that fact that this is an outstanding song it won’t harm the qualification.

Debut: 2007 (2004 as Serbia & Montenegro)

Biggest success: 1x 2nd place 2004 “Lane Moje” by Željko Joksimović (for Serbia & Montenegro), 1x 7th place. In the short history of Montenegro in the Eurovision Song Contest it’s only the sixth time so far for the Balkan country. Montenegro has also taken part two times as Serbia & Montenegro 2004 and 2005, this has been indeed very successful “Lane Moje” by Željko Joksimović in 2004 (2nd) and “Zauvijek Moja” by No Name in 2005 (7th).

Before Montenegro was a part of Yugoslavia, which had the debut in 1961 in Cannes with “Neke Davne Zvezde” by Ljiljana Petrovic (8th rank). There was one victory for Yugoslavia in 1989 with “Rock me” by Riva. Unfortunately, Montenegro has never made it into the grand final. Even with a little help of the other ex-Yugoslav countries it did not reach the grand finals.

Even the German composer Ralph Siegel has tried to bring some success to the Mediterranean country with “Just get out of my life” by Andrea Demirovic in 2009 (11th in the semi final) but it did not work out. The other songs have mainly been unglamorous rock songs like “Ajde Kroci” by Stevan Faddy in 2007 (21st in the semi final) and “Zauvijek Volim Te” by Stefan Filipović in 2008 (14th in the semi final). Maybe the composers did have not the right hand of composing something for an international audience in the ESC. Last year’s entry “Igranka” by Who See was an outstanding contribution with a great stage show and very contemporary, unfortunately the song did not qualify for the Grand Final in Malmö.
