Participant(s): Mei Feingold Song: Same Heart Writer(s) / Composer(s): Rami Talmid Broadcaster: IBA Social media: |
IntroductionUnlike last year the Israeli broadcaster IBA has made an internal selection. Last year a huge national contest did not bring Israel into the Grand Final. Sometimes such an internal choice can lead to a better result. Mia Feingold has been chosen a while ago and three songs have been presented to the public in a TV show to choose from. The winning entry is “Same Heart”, which has convinced the televoters. It is the fourth time Israel has been sending a singer from a casting show to Eurovision. All acts have done quite well: Shiri Maimon with “Hasheket Shenish'ar” made a 4th place in Kiev 2005, Boaz with “The Fire In Your Eyes” made a 9th place in Belgrade 2008 and Harel Skaat with “Milim” who made a 14th place in Oslo 2010. So maybe it’s a good premise for Mei as well. Mei was born in 1982 in Rischon Le Zion close to Tel Aviv. She is an Israeli singer who became popular through a casting show named “Kochav Nolad” (Israeli Pop Idol), where Mei made a third place. Since her childhood Mei is involved in music, singing lessons in classical opera. Later she appeared in several shows and gigs in night clubs and bars, her band is called Disjac. The song “Same Heart” is a pop song with a strong dance beat. Judging by the video clip there is a lot of dancing with a well equipped choreography to be expected from the Israeli entry. “Same Heart” will be sung half in English half in Hebrew and has a strong and catchy chorus. Mei’s strong, almost rocky voice has a special character which will be outstanding in Copenhagen. This entry is being seen as one of the big favourites this year by many people already. Let’s cross our fingers for Mei.
HistoryParticipations: 37 Debut: 1973 Biggest success: 3x 1st place “A-ba-ni-bi” by Izhar Cohen in 1978, “Hallelujah” by Gali Atari & Milk and Honey in 1979, “Diva” by Dana International in 1998, 2x 2nd place “Hora” by Avi Toledano in 1982, “Hi” by Ofra Haza in 1983, 1x 3rd place “Kan” by Duo Datz in 1991, 2x 4th place, 2x 5th place, 2x 6th place, 3x 7th place, 2x 8th place, 1x 9th place For Israel it’s the 37th time being part in the Eurovision Song Contest. The first Israeli entry “Ey-sham” by Ilanit made a respectable 4th place in 1973. Since Israel joined the ESC family it became one of the most successful countries with many strong and outstanding songs. Three times Israel has won the ESC: “A-ba-ni-bi” by Izhar Cohen and the Alphebeta in 1978, “Hallelujah” by Gali Atari & Milk and Honey in 1979 and “Diva” by Dana International in 1998. There were a lot of good songs with big singers which came close to victory like “Hora” by Avi Toledano in 1982 (2nd), “Hi” by Ofra Haza in 1983 (2nd) and “Kan” by Duo Datz in 1991 (3rd). Israel is also popular for great choreographies, especially in the 80’s and 90’s formation dance was strongly used in the Israeli contributions and has been mimicked from other countries, but not as successfully. The contest is enjoying a great interest in Israel and has huge viewing figures. Due to the introduction of the semi finals in 2004, Israel is not always among the finalists, out of 10 times, Israel could only qualify five times. Also last year in Malmö, Israel could not qualify for the Grand Final. |
