 The Ukraine joined the Eurovision family in 2003 in Riga with “Hasta la vista” by Olexandr (#13). Since the debut the Ukraine takes part on a regular basis and belongs to the most successful countries of the ESC recently – four Top 10 positions and a qualification for the final in every year. Just one year after the debut, Ruslana could win the contest with “Wild dances”. What an extraordinary stage performance the Ukrainian delegation has created, topped with a restless and energy loaded singer named Ruslana., Kiev has hosted the ESC in the following year in a brilliant way. An exotic and joyful atmosphere delighted the city of Kiev during the time of Eurovision. It all came together, the win of Eurovision and the orange revolution, in other words: the Ukraine was the topic in 2005. In this short time of participation there were unforgettable entries like: “Dancing Lasha Tumbai” by Verka Seduchka (#2) in 2007, “Shady Lady” by Ani Lorak (#2) in 2008 and “Be my valentine (Anti crisis girl)” by Svetlana Loboda (#12) in 2009. The national final in the Ukraine is always a bit strange. Even if a singer and song has been chosen, the Ukrainian TV NTU is replacing the participant on short notice and all of a sudden there is a new singer and a new song. The interest in the ESC is generally very high in the Ukraine as well as the significance of Ukrainian entries for the music industry. Therefore it’s tremendously important that the song must have an international format with stunning performance. This year’s song “Angel” is dreamy pop tune with a very interesting video clip. This will definitely hit the Eastern European music taste, as well as the Western Euroepan and hence it’s no question that this song will be in the final. A good stage show is going to bring this song in the Top 10. |
