Participant(s): Kristina Song: Horehronie Writer(s): Kamil Peteraj Composer(s): Martin Kavulic |
For the 5th time Slovakia takes part in the Eurovision Song Contest. Slovakia is one of the countries which do not take part on a regular basis. Good to see that the Slovaks are still interested in the contest, the Czech Republic has participated three years in a row but this year they resigned, as well as Italy, Luxembourg, San Marino, Monaco, Andorra, Montenegro and Austria. The most outstanding Slovakian entry is probably Katarina Hasprova’s “Modlitba” in 1998 (21st). Like last year, Slovakia has made a huge pre selection marathon with six quarter finals. At the end there is a lovely and interesting song called “Horehronie” sung by the lovely singer Kristina. This is a very special song which has a singularity which has never been heard before at the ESC. The rhythm is unusual as well, and the harmony is accompanied by some strange Slovakian instruments which have a sound like the pipe of the Andes. With this song Slovakia proofs another time being a strong contestant in the Eurovision Song Contest, and should not underestimated. Watch out for this!
