This is the fourth time Serbia is going to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest as an individual country. Before there were two entries in 2004 and 2005 where Serbia was “Serbia & Montenegro” and even before as Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia has won the ESC in 1989 with “Rock me” by Riva. Also Serbia won it immediately in 2007 with “Molitva” by Marija Šerifovic. Belgrade was also host city of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest and a very memorable as well. There was always so much enthusiasm in the ex-Yugolsav countries, so it was more than well deserved having the contest in that part of Europe. After hosting the contest in 2008, Serbia was not very lucky with the choice of their songs anymore. Last year’s entry did not even qualify for the final. Due to various financial reasons this years pre decision in Serbia was cut dramatically. Out of three entries, the public and juries have chosen “Ovo Je Balkan”. By first hearing it’s a quite strange song, but probably the best choice out of those three. There are folkloristic elements – as always – and a striking looking guy, who is maybe the blond version of Marija Šerifovic. With this song Serbia will have again it’s difficulties to enter the final.
