Portugal is taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest since 1964. Unfortunately, Portugal could never win the contest in all these years. And there were so brilliant entries, especially in the 80’s, but the juries never really voted for Portugal. Fado is a very popular music style in Portugal, and has often found its place in the Eurovision entries. Remember “Neste Barco a vela” by Nevada in 1987 or “Se Eu Te Pudesse Abraçar” by Alma Lusa in 1998. A very successful year for Portugal was in 1996, when “O Meu Coração Não Tem Cor” by Lucia Moniz could make a 6th place - a very folkloristic and optimistic entry in Oslo. The last two years, Portugal has been qualified for the final, very deserved. The highest hope of winning, the Portuguese had with “Senhora Do Mar (Negras Águas)” by Vânia Fernandes in Belgrade 2008. The competition was probably too high, despite of being the favorite among the press and fans. Through the success in the last two years, Portugal seems to be quite motivated and enthusiastic in the Eurovision Song Contest again. The pre decision has been a wonderful show with many good entries. This year’s song will probably be sung in Portuguese and called”Há Dias Assim”. It’s a traditional Portuguese ballad with a nice melody. This might be a bit too usual for the Eurovision Song Contest, as it won’t stand out enough. Judging by the video from the pre decision it looks nice with the piano, Filipa has to work on her stage presentation to make the best of it.
