Participant(s): Thea Garrett Song: My dream Writer(s): Sunny Aquilina Composer(s): Jason Cassar |
Malta takes part in the Eurovision Song Contest since 1971. After three participations Malta made a break of 16 years and came back with huge energy and success. Malta always received good results in the following years and was often close to victory. As English is one of the two official languages beside of Maltese in Malta, it has been without any doubt a huge advantage in comparison to the other countries. English is understood everywhere and the United Kingdom and Ireland benefitted from this a lot as well. In all these years Malta made its own song festival called “Malta Song Festival” with several preliminary rounds and lots of entries. In this year’s Maltese final there were 20 songs, incredible if you take into consideration that Malta’s population is only 400.000, there is so much creativity and country’s pride as well as enthusiasm to be represented in an international platform like the Eurovision Song Contest, which keeps the hope into the Eurovision dream alive. After sending Chiara for the third time last year, the Maltese people have chosen another ballad called “My dream” performed by Thea Garrett. It’s a lovely symphony with a strong and catchy melody, sung by the lovely singer Thea, who received the warmest applause in the Maltese final. At the end of the song she is proofing opera voice style, which is quite suitable to this song. This song might do well, if she will have an impressive stage appearance in Oslo.
