Turkey’s debut at the Eurovision Song Contest was in 1975. Since then Turkey showed an irrepressible enthusiasm to be part of the Eurovision family even if the poor results were disappointing many times and sometimes even unfair. The music style has changed a lot since then. Nowadays there are still Turkish ethno elements but combined with contemporary sounds makes Turkish music quite popular. After Sertab’s great victory in 2003, Turkey is always sending the best of the Turkish pop industry. That’s also one reason why Turkey is one of the more successful countries in recent years probably even more than the reason of Diaspora voting. The enthusiasm in Turkey is quite high for the Eurovision Song Contest in general. This year the Turkish-Belgian singer Hadidse is going to represent Turkey with “Düm Tek Tek”. She has been chosen internally by TRT. She also announced that her chances were a lot higher in Turkey to get chosen than in Belgium as she is born and raised up in Belgium. |
