Since 1993 Slovenia is a strong and enthusiastic member of the Eurovision family. Unless the other ex-Yugoslav countries Slovenia has never really take an advantage of the “Balkan connection”, this is also probably due to that fact that Slovenia is a member of the European Union, has the Euro currency and furthermore is more western orientated than the other countries.
The most successful entries were “Prisluhni mi” by Darja Svaiger (1995) and “Energy” by Nusa Derenda (2001) – both came 7th.

This year’s composer Andrej Babic is already well known at Eurovision. He has composed several songs for different countries, last years Portuguese entry “Senhora do mar” performed by Vania Fernandes has brought the pride back to Portugal after a long period of unsuccessful songs: they passed the semi final and came 13th in the final, thanks to Andrej’s great composition. “Love Symphony” is the latest composition for Eurovision, this year it’s for Slovenia. The song is 2/3 instrumental, which is nothing new at Eurovision. “Nocturne” from Secret Garden has won with just sparely use of words.
There are four musicians named Quartissimo and one female singer Martina, together they are going to rock the Olympinsky hall with the extraordinary song. In the Slovenian pre decision Martina appeared very late on stage and stayed behind a shadow wall. The song shows drama and kitsch – a kind of soft version of Apocalyptica (interval act 2007 in Helsinki). Martina has a great voice and in the end her singing reminds a bit of “Somewhere” from West Side Story or a James Bond movie track. This is impressing!
