Latvia had a brilliant debut with “My Star” sung by Brainstorm in the year 2000 in Stockholm. Two years later Marie N could win the Eurovision Song Contest with a kind of surprise victory called “I wanna”. In 2003 Riga was the host city where Marie N and Renars Kaupers from Brainstorm were hosting the contest in an impressing way. Latvia and Estonia are the only Baltic countries which could win so far, beside of Lithuania.-The latest greater success was Pirates of the Sea with same named title in 2008 in Belgrade (rank #12). This year Latvia is sending a rock song to Eurovision. The song “Probka” is sung by Sastregums, which is quite popular in Latvia. Normally, rock songs can have great melodies, but this one doesn’t. It’s just a loud and tuneless entry, which is perfectly for a walk to the loo. These are the longest three minutes at this Eurovision! |
