Participant(s): Noa & Mira Awad Song: There Must Be Another Way Writer(s): Noa, Mira Awad, Gil Dor Composer(s): Noa, Mira Awad, Gil Dor |
With no doubt - Israel is a quite successful country in the Eurovision Song Contest. There were three victories: in 1978 (A ba ni bi / Izahr Cohen), 1979 (Hallelujah / Gali Atari and Milk & Honey) and 1998 (Diva / Dana International). As Israel takes part in the contest since 1973 it belongs to the “older Eurovision family”. In 1994 the doors were opened for the Eastern European countries. Many “older” countries suffered from that fact. Countries like France, Spain and Germany could never win again. The neighbour country voting is a big aspect nowadays and confuses the TV spectators. Nevertheless Israel did not suffer from that and received good positions recently – like Boaz with “Fire in your eyes” (in 2008 rank 9) and Shiri Maymon with “Hasheket Shenish’ar” (in 2005 rank 4). This year there will be a duet by Noa and Mira Awad called “There must be another way”. Noa is one the best known singers in Israel, who is already well known internationally. She fills concert halls in Israel and has a great repertoire of songs. Mira comes from the Palestine part of Israel and is more known in the Arabian speaking music scene of Israel. Together Noa and Mira will fulfill a mission of peace. Even if political statements are not allowed due to the rules of the EBU, Nicole from Germany has won with “Ein bisschen Frieden”, which also had the clear message of peace.
