Participant(s): Alex Swings Oscar Sings! Song: Miss Kiss Kiss Bang Writer(s): Alex Christensen Composer(s): Alex Christensen |
Germany is also participating since the very first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. There were many second and third places, which kept the interest high. The only first place could be reached by Nicole with “Ein bisschen Frieden” in 1982 in Harrogate. Her composer Ralph Siegel is celebrating his 19th entry in the ESC this year, but this year he is going to start for Montenegro. There were also unforgettable German entries almost everybody remembers: “Wunder gibt es immer wieder” by Katja Ebstein in 1971(rank #3), “Dschingis Khan” by Dshingis Khan in 1979 (rank #4), “Fuer alle” by Wind in 1985 (rank #2) and “No, no never” by Texas Lightening in 2006 (rank #14). The Germans were always very keen on winning this contest again, but with every attempt by the German composers, Germany did not shape up very well anymore. The golden times seemed to be over, unless the freaky guy Guildo Horn could bring back the enthusiasm for the Eurovision in 1998 with “Guildo hat euch lieb” (rank #7). If Germany ends up in the top 10, everybody is happy, but if not, it equal to a scandal. This year the German Television NDR has determined the German representative by an internal decision. Many people criticized that there was no public pre selection like in former years. Maybe that is one main reason, why the Germans do not support this year’s German entry “Miss Kiss Kiss Bang”. The whole nation was shocked by the fact, that somebody totally unknown from the United States should sing for Germany in Moscow. The composer Alex is mainly a music producer and known from special interest shows. The combo “Alex swings Oscar sings” is not comprehended at all, how should this going to be a hit in Germany or even in Europe? The song itself is a boring swing number, which reminds a bit of Roger Cicero’s entry “Frauen regiern die Welt”. The video clip has been produced in Cuba and it looks cool and groovy, but live on stage it’s disappointing proofed in several TV apperances. Even if the attractive singer Oscar is doing a little step dance in the interlude and the is going to be a stripping lady this won’t convince. Surprisingly the duo is quite confident and expect being in the top 10. But the competition is also hard this year. Expecting the bottom of the list might be more realistic! |
