Participant(s): Charlotte Perrelli Song: Hero Writer(s): Fredrik Kempe Composer(s): Fredrik Kempe & Bobby Ljunggren |
Sweden is probably the most eager countries participating at the Eurovision Song Contest. The Swedish Melodifestivalen runs over several weeks with the crème de la crème of the Swedish music business. Nowadays it’s the most popular TV show in Sweden. Almost all songs of this year’s Final are already in the Swedish charts. Four times the land of the Midnight Sun brought back the crown: ABBA in 1974 with “Waterloo”, The Herrey`s in 1984 with “Diggi-Loo-Diggi-Ley”, Carola in 1991 with “Fangad av en stormvind” and Charlotte Nilsson (now Charlotte Perelli!) in 1999 with “Tusen och en natt”. As almost expected Charlotte Perelli – formerly Charlotte Nilsson – has won the Melodifestivalen again! The Swedish Eurovision star Carola failed in the Second Chance show already. And now Charlotte is going to represent Sweden in the Semi-Final 2 in Belgrade. With this singer this could be a great chance for Sweden to bring the crown back to Sweden for another time. Charlotte is very famous in Sweden and she became popular and well known throughout Europe due to her victory in 1999. This year’s song “Hero” is a typical Swedish song in the mood of 2008: modern, catchy, glamorous with a strong melody – very optimistic and positive – the happy sound of Scandinavia. Charlotte’s stage appearance is perfectly choreographed with several highlights like her twinkling microphone and the turning around camera work. This year Sweden has the strongest song with the most popular singer. And it’s not the first time that a winner is going to win again, remember Johnny Logan. Good luck Sweden! |
