Participant(s): Maria Haukaas Storeng Song: Hold on, be strong Writer(s): Mira Craig Composer(s): Mira Craig |
There is a big hype in Norway for Maria – the Norwegian representative for the Eurovision Song Contest. She has won the Norwegian predecision and is already #1 in the Norwegian charts with “Hold on be strong”. This is a very good sign that Norway’s interest in the contest has increased again. Many Scandinavians have been disappointed by the big influence of the Eastern European countries in the Eurovision Song Contest especially regarding the voting. There are two ways to get along with this, sending gimmick songs like Ireland and Spain, or do it the right way like Sweden. The Swedish Melodifestivalen is a huge success in Sweden and shows that there is such a big interest in Swedish music. The Norwegians try this, too. And that’s very good! Maria’s song is a love song and will be sung in English. It is always important for a Eurovision song to impress by first hearing. With the Norwegian song it won’t be easy for foreign ears. The song has no climax and it plashes along, even if Maria’s voice is clear and strong. It even sounds a bit discouraged.
