Estonia is one of the new countries at Eurovision which is quite successful over the years. Since the debut in 1994 they could finally win in 2001 with “Everybody” sung by Tanel Padar & Dave Benton. The Estonians hosted a wonderful contest one year later in the beautiful city of Tallinn. Estonia is now able to risk more and more, but the Estonians are very eager and enthusiastic when it comes to Eurovision. Estonia can be represented as an independent and individual country with own ideas and culture which is “typical Estonian”. There were many untypical and innovative songs from Estonia in the past. Unfortunately there are trends in the music styles. Last year many countries brought rock songs, as it was estimated Hard Rock is popular, so people need to have another Hard Rock song. Last year Verka from the Ukraine came second with a gimmick song. She was unique and excellent. But such things should not be copied. Guess, this year we are having at least four gimmick songs – and all 1000 times worse as Verka’s “Dancing”: the crackbrained turkey from Ireland, the insane Rudolpho from Spain and additionally Kreisradio from Estonia! The comedians are very popular in Estonia, but how should Europe understand this kind of joke? The song “Leto Svet” is foolish and unbearable. It seems that Supermario is on stage, ugly old men appear drunken and freaked out. Where are the great songs from Estonia gone? |
