Participant(s): SCOOCH Song: Flying The Flag Writer(s) & Composer(s): Russ SPENCER, Morten SCHJOLIN, Andrew HILL & Paul TARRY |
The United Kingdom has always participated in the Eurovision Song Contest. Since all the participating countries were allowed to sing in English or their preferred language, the UK indeed has come into big trouble. The big advantage of singing English has gone. The competition has grown, especially forced by the Eastern European countries. Smaller countries give all their efforts to bring high quality songs into the contest – if you take a look at Georgia this year. The UK has followed and copied musical trends and lost it’s own “Eurovision-style” recently. 0 Points in Riga has been the hit below the bell. This year it doesn’t look better at all. The group Scooch is copying the style of the popular “Steps” and appears as airline crew. This is nothing new, since Sestre from Slovenia tried the same and failed. Scooch shows the whole flight-program with safety-regulations, advices and service procedures. It all may appear funny, but starting after the joke-polka-song from the Ukraine, it’s even more than camp! The refrain itself is catchy, but where has the class of Imaani or Katrina gone? |
