Ireland is still leading in winning the Eurovision Song Contest for seven times! Unbelievable, the Irish TV RTE has been broadcasting three times after another 1993, 1994 and 1995, furthermore 1997. The concept of the Irish music at Eurovision has been unique. Ballads with folkloristic elements have touched the hearts. The Irish truly love their ballads and Europe does, too. Last year’s singer Brian Kennedy has brought back Ireland into the spotlight with a very touching song. It’s a miracle that this kind of music is still so popular, even if the competitors present much heavier stuff. This year the band Dervish is going to give it another try. A wonderful melody, with the special kick might be a surprise in Helsinki. Thanks to Brian Kennedy who came 10th with “Every song is a cry for Love”, Ireland is immediately qualified for this years’ final. On the third starting position Ireland will start in the final – a good position, remember 1994 when Ireland also started on number three and finally won with “Rock ’n Roll Kids”. |
