What a great victory Lordi brought to Finland last year. After entering the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961, Finland did not have an easy task in the circus of Eurovision. Even the neighbor countries were very not generous concerning the votes, no matter if the Finnish songs were good or bad. Finland often ranked last at the end. No wonder that the interest in the contest was sometimes a bit low. The Finnish music is maybe not as happy as the general music in Scandinavia. There are long and dark winters and the summers are short. This also influences the style of the local music. You can find much country, rock and heavy metal music in Finland – all with a sentimental touch. This year Finland has the great opportunity to host the biggest TV show in the world: the Eurovision Song Contest. The Finns got crazy after the big success of Lordi with their extraordinary “Hard Rock Hallelujah”. Thousands of people went to the city of Helsinki to celebrate this unique event. For the first time - after a very long period - Finland is going to be the center of Europe. The world is looking at Finland. |
