Since ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, the contest has gained huge importance in Sweden and became the most important event of the year. All Swedes are watching it. People would like to know, how does Sweden shape up this year? The Swedish pre-decision with five different shows is getting more and more popular every year. No wonder - all big names of composers and singers are using this great opportunity. A new role for the always successful Sweden is to take part in the international semifinal for the first time. With this year's singer it won't be a problem to take this hurdle - Carola! Carola Häggqvist is taking part for the third time as a solo singer - 1983 in Munich with "Främling" (3rd rank) and the big victory in 1991 in Rome with "Fangad av en stormvind". Indeed it was a war of nerves, the French singer Amina had the same amount of points at the end. But the rule said that the amount of the highest votes (12 points) is going to be decisive. Lena Philippson ("It hurts" Istanbul 2004) was the host of the Melodifestivalen and as everybody in Sweden knows they are archenemies! Lena was not allowed to give a bad comment after Carola's triumph! |
