One of the most enthusiastic countries in the Eurovision Song Contest is without any doubt Sweden. It really seems like they have invented it! Everybody knows ABBA, with their glorious victory "Waterloo" in 1974 they started a world career. In no other country the Grand Prix has such a magical attraction like here - the land of the Midnight Sun. From Malmö to Kiruna everybody is excited how Sweden does this year and how many points Sweden receives by its Scandinavian neighbours. Swedish music often is popmusic, melodic and many bands could creat a kind of quality label "Made in Sweden" like Ace of Base, Roxette, Alcazar and Army of Lovers. Sweden has won four times already. But there were so many other good songs like: "April April" by Lil Babs (Cannes 1961), "Härliga Sommardag" by Family Four (Edinburgh 1972) and "Bra vibrationer" by Kikki Danielsson (Gothenburg 1985). The Swedish Television SVT has created a very popular preselection show called "Melodifestivalen". The crème de la crème of the Swedish music scene is well presented. This year also Alcazar tried another attempt with "Alcastar" - already number one in the Swedish charts - and also Katrina Leskovic (formerly know as Katrina & The Waves) with "If tomorrow never comes". With a little surprise quite unknown singer Martin Stenmarck could win with "Las Vegas". This song is not what we normally know from Swedish entries. If you expect a "Swedish sound" you should listen to the song from Bosnia & Herzegovina "Call me" by Feminem! But this song is also not too bad. |
