Participant(s): Selma Song: If I had your love Writer(s): Linda Thompson Composer(s): Thorvaldur Bjarni Thorvaldsson, Vignir Snær Vigfússon |
1986 was the first year for Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest. Due to technical reasons an earlier participation was not possible. Since then the Icelandic musicians could prove that there is a huge potential on this mysterious island and there is more than Björk and Mezzoforte, who are already well known. Eurovision has always been follwed with high interest like in the other Scandinavian countries. The best song from Iceland were: "Sjubidu" by Anna Mjöll (Oslo 1996) and "Minn hinsti dans" by Paul Oscar (Dublin 1997) with the white sofa on stage. Recently there has not been a predecision in Iceland. The TV-station RÚV has chosen the participant internally. Obviously the had a quite good hand on this: Birgitta with "Open your heart" (Riga 2003) and also Jónsi with "Heaven" (Istanbul 2004) were great singers with high quality songs. This years Iceland is going to top this. Selma is the singer who already could get 2nd in Jerusalem in 1999 with "All out of Luck". In Kiev she will sing a far better song "If I had your Love". But she face the fact that the competition is extremely high in this years semifinal! Her song is melodic, rhythmic and contains some elements like in Britney Spears song "Toxic". It all depend on her live perfomance on stage, but she can end up quite high! Good luck Selma! |
