Since 1960 Norway has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest. Unfortunately Norway often finished last, this is probably due to sometime unusual songs and the Norwegian language, which is quite hard to understand. Nevertheless the country of the never setting sun won twice: in 1985 "La det swinge" ("Let it swing") sung by the Bobbysocks and in 1995 with "Nocturne" performed by the group Secret Garden. Unforgettable Norwegian entries were "Mata Hari" by Anne-Karine Ström (The Hague 1976), "Samid Aednan" by Sverre Kjellsberg & Mattis Haetta (The Hague 1980) and "Adjeu" by Jahn Teigen & Anita Skorgan (Munich 1983). In recent years Norway has mainly chosen male singers to represent the country at the Eurovision. This year will be no different - like many countries who will be represented by a male singer, Norway has chosen a guy named Knut Anders Sörum. He won the national finals which took place at the Oslo Spectrum with the song "High". Norway qualified directly for the grand final on Saturday May 15th - the song is optimistic and catchy - it'll all depend on the presentation on stage in Istanbul, but the chances for the song to become a hit are quite high. |
