Participant: Sakis Rouvas Song: Shake it Writer(s): Nektarios Tirakis Composer(s): Nikos Terzis |
Every year it is a great pleasure watching Greece participating in the Eurovision Song Contest. Greek contributions were often exotic and touched by the county's charming folkloristic scene. There is a lively musical scene in Greece and particularly over the recent years many of the country's popular singers were sent to participate. For example the singer Mando with "Never Let Go" in Riga 2003, the group Antique who went 3rd with their song "Die For You" (Copenhagen 2001) and Michalis Rakintzis with S.A.G.A.P.O. (Tallinn 2002). There were some problems choosing this years Greek entry: originally the plan was to send the winner of a TV-show called "Eurostar" to Istanbul but then the Greek TV-station ERT chose singer Sakis Rouvas internally. The attractive singer was borne on the island of Corfu (as was Vicky Leandros), has a lot of stage experience and has already appeared singing with Anna Vissi. He is very popular in Greece indeed. The song "Shake It" is a modern, catchy up-tempo song - not sounding Greek at all - it's more Ricky Martin like (including Sakis' hip movements…). His motto for Istanbul is "You have seen nothing yet!". Well, we can't wait!
