Participant: t.A.T.u. Song: Ne verj, ne boisja Writer(s): Valerij Polienko Composer(s): Mars Lasar |
Since the debut of Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest 1994, there were always strange and extraordinary compositions for the former czar empire. However the Eurovision Song contest has become very popular throughout the country and everybody is proud to be presented as an advanced country in Europe. T.a.t.u. are two young girls: Lena and Yulia, who already topped the European charts with "All things she said". They have been number one in Great Britain and Germany. At Eurovision they are going to sing in Russian. The song is similar to "All the things she said - modern, rocky and provocative. The image of those two young ladies is discussed in all media. Lesbians, or not? They love it to kiss each other on stage or official presentations. Is it just a marketing-gag? Alleged both of them having a boyfriend, but who knows? Why shouldn't two girls kiss each other on TV? We are having the year 2003! The TV-stations have a more conservative opinion. The German ZDF (Wetten, dass…?) faded out the kissing szene within the show, and the Turkish TV station TRT didn't show the original video-clip, but cut out the kissing scenes. The EBU threatened with disqualification (no official intimacy) if T.a.t.u. should try to neck each other on the Eurovision stage! T.a.t.u. gave their abusive comment about the German singer Lou: "she looks like she has done more men, than we drank bottles of vodka! We would throw her out of our bed immediately". They described Lou as "old crispy witch" and added "people in Russia care about the old and the blind, but never send them to Eurovision". T.a.t.u. promised to bring something totally new to Eurovision, what the viewers never have seen before. |
