Participant: Ira Losco Song: 7 th wonder Writer(s): Gerard James Borg Composer(s): Philip Vella |
Malta takes part regularily at the Eurovision Song Contest since 1991. In former years they were in for some years already, but made a break. There are two official languages in Malta English and Maltese. So Malta always had a kind of advantage to be understood througout Europe with English contributions. The best rank (3.) was achieved in 1992 with Mary Spitery "Little Child" and in 1998 Chiara "The one that I love". The Maltese would love to host the contest one day. The singer for Malta 2002 is Ira Losco. She is just 20 years old. She was discovered by Ray Agius on a concert of her school. Ira already took part at the Maltese Song Festival twice. But this year she got the highest votes both from the international jury as well as by the telespectators via televoting. The Song "7th Wonder" is a lovesong. Our impression is that it reminds us of ABBA's songs. The refrain is a little bit obstrusive.
