Introduction

The Bulgarian entries are always of a special kind and often connected with great entertainment on stage. There has been a national selection which has been followed with great interest. “Love unlimited” by Sofi Marinova has convinced with 30.6% of the votes by televoting and juries. The song is an ultra modern house number which could be played in every discotheque. There is a strong beat with mystic voice elements which give it an exotic flavour. This is probably the most danceable entry of the year. Such an entry must be performed very well on stage to assure credibility.

Last year’s entry from Hungary “What about my dreams” by Kati Wolf also had a strong dance song, but failed due to an old-fashioned stage show. The Bulgarians should really put every effort in the optimal presentation, so a qualification and a good result will be guaranteed.

History

In the short history of Bulgaria in the Eurovision Song Contest there were seven entries since the debut in 2005 with a stunning entry “Lorraine” by Kaffe (18^th in the semi final). It took a while since Bulgaria joined the Eurovision family, while the neighbour country Romania has debuted in 1994 already. Unfortunately, Bulgaria only made it once into the grand final with the spectacular percussion performance “Water” by Elitsa Todorova & Stoyan Yankulov in 2007 (5^th). This was also the best place ever!

Bulgarian entries were not bad at all, but maybe the international audience did not believe in successful songs from Bulgaria. The verve for the ESC in Bulgaria has increased from year to year. The two closest songs for a place in the final were: “DJ, Take Me Away” by Deep Zone & Balthazar in 2008 (12^th) and “Na inat” by Poli Genova in 2011 (12^th).
