Participant(s): Sinplus Song:Unbreakable Writer(s): Gabriel Broggini & Ivan Broggini Composer(s): Gabriel Broggini & Ivan Broggini |
Introduction Sinplus is a band consisting of two brothers Ivan and Gabriel. Both grew up with playing music at an early age. They made musical experiences in the USA founded the band “Meanwhile” later renamed to Sinplus, their first single reached the Swiss charts. After that Sinplus had success both in Switzerland and Italy with several songs. With the song “Shoot” they have composed the anthem song of the 2009 World Hockey Championship. The fresh and optimistic duo convinced the Swiss audience in the pre decision with 17% of the votes. The style of the song “Unbreakable” is a fast rock song with a strong and catchy chorus. This will definitely get a lot of attention among the younger crowd who is more likely to vote in the contest. History This year Switzerland is taking part for the 54th time in the Eurovision Song Contest. Switzerland is not only one of the founding members of this event it has even won the first contest in history with “Refrain” by Lys Assia in the first year back in 1956. Switzerland has missed out two years 1999 and 2001 due to bad placing in previous years. Since the semi finals have been introduced in 2004, Swiss entries were struggling with the qualification for the grand final. Last year has been the second time to see Switzerland in the grand final again with “In love for a while” by Anna Rossellini, unfortunately she made the 25th place, but at least she has reached the final. The most significant winning entry is probably “Ne partez pas sans moi” by Céline Dion in Dublin 1988; she won with only one point distance to the UK. In this year’s pre decision Lys Assia took part again with a song written by Ralph Siegel “C’etait ma vie” and came 7th. This would have been a big sensation to have the first ESC winner in the 2012 contest after 56 years.
