Participant(s): El Sueño de Morfeo Song:Contigo Hasta El Final Writer(s) / Composer(s): Raquel del Rosario, David Feito, Juan Suárez |
Introduction The Spanish entry is called “Contigo Hasta El Final” and has been selected in a national final show called “Destino Eurovision” which has taken place in Barcelona. The band El Sueño de Morfeo ESDM has been determined by the Spanish broadcaster RTVE before and there were several songs to choose from. Out of three final songs “Contigo Hast El Final” has been the clear favourite of the jury and televoters. The group El Sueño de Morfeo ESDM has been founded in the Spanish province Asturias in 2002 under the previous name Xema. In 2003 the name has been changed into the current one. The band members are Raquel, David and Juan. The musicians are specialized in earthy, contemporary music with folkloristic influence, dreamy melodies and rustique instruments. The first hit “Nunca volverá” has also been the title song of a TV serial “Los Serrano”. From that time onwards ESDM has been touring all over Spain and in Spanish speaking countries like Peru with more than one million visitors altogether. The 2nd album “El Sueño” received platinum status. The lead singer Raquel del Rosario Macías, who was born in Gran Canaria in 1982, was married with Fernando Alonso (Formula 1 pilot). The song starts with Celtic instruments and transforms into a power ballad. Even if this song has been the clear favourite in Spain, this choice might not be the best, as the song “Atrevete” would have had more atmosphere and international approach. The uplifting and fresh attitude of ESDM will definitely be awarded in Malmö.
History Participations: 53 Debut: 1961 Biggest success: 2x 1st place 1968 “La, la, la..” by Massiel, 1969 “Vivo Cantando” by Salomé, 4x 2nd place 1971 “En Un Mundo Nuevo” by Karina, 1973 “Eres Tú” by Mocedades , 1979 “Su Canción” by Betty Missiego, 1995 “Vuelve Conmigo” by Anabel Conde, 1x 3rd 1984 “Lady Lady” by Bravo, 2x 4th place, 1x 5th place, 4x 6th place, 2x 7th place, 1x 8th place, 4x 9th place, 6x 10th place For the 53rd time Spain is attending the Eurovision Song Contest this year. Spain belongs to the Big 5 countries together with Italy, United Kingdom, France and Germany. The Big 5 countries are the biggest financial backers in the EBU so they have the right to start directly in the grand final and they don’t have to go through the semi finals. Spain has won the ESC twice, but that’s some years ago “La, la, la...” by Massiel in 1968 and “Vivo Cantando” by Salomé in 1969. Beside of that there were 27 Top 10 positions, the most popular ones were: “Su Canción” by Betty Missiego in 1979 (2nd), “Bandido” by Azucar Moreno in 1990 (6th) and “Vuelve Conmigo” by Anabel Conde in 1995 (2nd). Unfortunately, the Spanish entries were not that successfully anymore and often found on the bottom of the scoreboards. The entries from Spain were mainly in Spanish, while other countries used the open language rule, also France tried some verses or choruses in English. The Spanish organizers have tried almost everything to bring Spain back to the old successful stream, but this did not work very well, so it would be time for Spain to come back to the old success. Last year Pastora Soler reached a remarkable 10th place with “Quédate Conmigo”.
