Introduction

This year the Serbian broadcaster RTS has hosted a national final, called “Beosong” including two semi finals. Out of 15 entries, the majority of televotes and jury have picked out the Serbian girl group Moje 3 to represent Serbia in Malmö at the ESC. 

The three girls who form Moje 3 are Mirna Radulović (20), Nevena Božović (18) and Sara Jovanović (19). They all have participated in the casting show Prvi Glas Serbjie (The First Voice Of Serbia) and reached all top three ranks. A dream came true when they realized that they are going to sing at Eurovision this year. 

The song “Ljubav Je Svuda” (Love Is Everywhere) is a Balkan-Pop song with a unique choreography, judged by the stage show in the national final. The three girls have been dressed differently, one as devil one as angel and a neutral one. Normally the Serbian ESC entries belong to the strongest contenders, but this year it looks not that good. Moje 3 have very good voices, the song is a bit too ordinary, even if the arrangement is made in a modern way. The chorus sounds like a warm up in a choir lesson. A qualification for the final seems to be hard to achieve this year.

For the 7th time Serbia takes part in the Eurovision Song Contest as an independent country since 2007. The two years before it has been Serbia & Montenegro. Montenegro also takes part independently. And of course the former Yugoslavia took part 27 times since 1961 with one victory “Rock me” by Riva in 1989.

In 2007 Serbia took part independently it also win the ESC with the overwhelming ballad “Molitva” by Marija Šerifović in Helsinki. The year after Serbia proudly hosted the contest in Belgrade. It was a terrific show with one of the most beautiful ESC stages ever. The whole Balkan area was proud that the ESC was held in the region and Belgrade has shown its best side.

The Serbian entries were always quite strong songs and the majority qualified for the final, beside of one time in 2009. The most outstanding songs were: “Oro” by Jelena Tomašević feat. Bora Dugic in 2008 (6th), “Ovo Je Balkan” by Milan Stanković in 2010 (13th) and “Caroban” by Nina in 2011 (14th). Maybe Željko Joksimović has put the most effort in the Serbian success in the recent years. He composed, sang his entries and also hosted the ESC in Belgrade 2008.
