Introduction The Montenegrin broadcaster RTCG has made an internal selection and picked the rap duo “Who See” as representative for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö. The band is popular for rap and hip hop music. In particular these are Debbuh (Dejan Dedović) from Kotor 32 years old, and Noyz (Mario Đorđević) from Herceg Novi, 29 years old, the band Who See has been founded in the year 2000 and they are known for their funny videos. On stage in Malmö they will be accompanied by the singer Nina Žižić who started her singing career in 2003 and she has already participated in the 2006 national final of Montenegro. Who See have often played as opening act on hip hop concerts and in discotheques. They have released two albums “Sviranje kupcu” in 2006 and “Krš i drača” in 2012. Last year they have received a MTV award “Best Adria Act 2012” with the song “Reggaeton Montenegro”, which has been a number one hit for five weeks in the regional top 20 charts on MTV. The video clip has been aired over 800 times. Due to their popularity in the Balkan region Who See have a little advantage. The song is a very contemporary hip hop styled music which may attract the younger crowd, not in particular the typical Eurovision audience. But this song definitely is one of the best entries from Montenegro! The Eurovision Song Contest is normally open for all kinds of music, so “Igranka” which means “Dance” has good chances to push Montenegro out of the Semi Final into the Grand Final.
History Participations: 5 Debut: 2007 (2004 as Serbia & Montenegro) Biggest success: 1x 2nd place 2004 “Lane Moje” by Željko Joksimović (for Serbia & Montenegro), 1x 7th place In the short history of Montenegro in the Eurovision Song Contest it’s only the fifth time so far for the Balkan country. Montenegro has also taken part two times as Serbia & Montenegro 2004 and 2005, this has been indeed very successful “Lane Moje” by Željko Joksimović in 2004 (2nd) and “Zauvijek Moja” by No Name in 2005 (7th). Before Montenegro was a part of Yugoslavia, which had the debut in 1961 in Cannes with “Neke Davne Zvezde” by Ljiljana Petrovic (8th rank). There was one victory for Yugoslavia in 1989 with “Rock me” by Riva. Unfortunately, Montenegro has never made it into the grand final. Even with a little help of the other ex-Yugoslav countries it did not reach the grand finals. Even the German composer Ralph Siegel has tried to bring some success to the Mediterranean country with “Just get out of my life” by Andrea Demirovic in 2009 (11th in the semi final) but it did not work out. The other songs have mainly been unglamorous rock songs like “Ajde Kroci” by Stevan Faddy in 2007 (21st in the semi final) and “Zauvijek Volim Te” by Stefan Filipović in 2008 (14th in the semi final). Maybe the composers did have not the right hand of composing something for an international audience in the ESC. |
