Participant(s): Andrius Pojavis Song: Something Writer(s): Andrius Pojavis Composer(s): Andrius Pojavis |
Introduction In Lithuania there has been a big national final on TV and two semi finals to choose the right candidate for the 58th Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö this year. Among the seven finalists it became clear that Andrius Pojavis had the best song with the most striking stage appearance. The song is called “Something” and it is a modern pop song with some rocky tunes and a strong chorus. The song has been composed by himself. The melody is very catchy and this song could easily played by the radio stations all over Europe. The song arrangement sounds a bit like the former Swiss entry “The Highest Heights” by Lovebugs 2009 in Moscow, which did not make it to the final. The good looking singer has been wearing a top hat and a suit fly in the national final and of course that’s a hallmark for Andrius. This entry deserves a spot in the grand final in Malmö. Andrius is 31 years old and his official profession is a teacher. Since his childhood he has been singing in various bands. His first published song was “Traukinai” (catching) which has become a little hit in Lithuania. He is now living in Milan.
History Participations: 14 Debut: 1994 Biggest success: 1x 6th place 2006 “We Are The Winners” by LT United For Lithuania it’s the 14th time in the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö this year. The debut entry “Lopsine Mylimai” by Ovidijus Vysniauskas in 1994 came last with zero points – not a good start unfortunately. While the Baltic neighbour countries Estonia and Latvia had a better hand in successful Eurovision entries including two victories, Lithuania never shaped up that well beside of one exception with “We are the winners” by LT United in 2006, which came 6th in Athens. At least Lithuania has qualified five times for the grand final. The most outstanding songs were “Strazdas” by Aiste in 1999 (20th), “Love or leave” by 4Fun in 2007 (21st) and “Eastern European Funk” by InCulto in 2010. The Lithuanians songs were mostly sung in English, beside of two years in the beginning, so it was probably obvious for the Lithuanian broadcaster LRT to see that the songs will be sung in English to be understood at 100%.
