Introduction In Hungary there is a talent show called DAL, which is used as selection show for the Hungarian representative at the Eurovision Song Contest. Among eight finalists the winner has been declared: ByeAlex with the song “Kedvesem”. ByeAlex will represent Hungary in Malmö at the ESC. His real name is Alex Márta, who was born in 1984 in Fényslitke, Eastern Hungary. His first songs Alex wrote as teenager. He studied philosophy and kept on making music. The first song was called “Csókolom!” (kiss) and was even played in the Hungarian radio stations. He normally works as a journalist and as an editor for a tattoo magazine. The style of ByeAlex music is Indie-Pop. He never thought to take part in the ESC, as he had not enough stage experience. But the managers convinced him to take part in the DAL festival. So ByeAlex was the surprise winner of this year. The song “Kedvesem” has been co-composed by ByeAlex himself and means “Darling”. It’s a very melodic and catchy tune, relatively quiet though. The task for ByeAlex will be to bewitch the juries and televoters with this lovely tune. The first Hungarian entry was also a quiet and touching song and shaped up very well. Let’s hope that this entry may be successful and push ByeAlex into the grand final in Malmö.
History Participations: 11 Debut: 1994 Biggest success: 1x 4th place “Kinek Mondjam El Vétkeimet” by Friderika Bayer, 1x 9th place Hungary had its debut with “Kink Kinek Mondjam El Vétkeimet” by Friderika Bayer in 1994 and came 4th with a big surprise. A remarkable placing in the debut year, also for other newcomers like Poland (2nd) and Russia (7th), they all shaped up very well in Dublin. From that debut year Hungary did not participate on a regular basis, the biggest pause has been between 1998 and 2005. Hungary came back with new music and a lot of energy in 2005. The group NOX could bring Hungary back to a good position with a very well choreographed folkloristic dance song “Forogj Világ” which came 12th in the final. This fact did not only delight the TV viewers and audience, furthermore, Hungary found back a regular place in the contest with a big wow! There were other flashy entries like “Unsubstantial Blues” by Magdi Rúsza in 2007 (9th) and “What about my dreams” by Kati Wolf in 2011, which came 22nd in the grand final in Dusseldorf. This brought Hungary glamour and international attention even if the placing was not deserved. Last year in Baku the Hungarian entry “Sound Of Our Hearts” by Compact Disco also reached the final, unfortunately came 24th.
