This year Turkey will attend the Eurovision Song Contest for the 33rd time! The country has joined the contest in 1975 with the song “Seninle Bir Dakika” by Semiha Yanki, she only got 19th at the end. For quite a long time, songs from Turkey have always been more exotic than from any other country. The music was probably not too easy to listen to for Western European ears. Unfortunately, Turkey often unfairly ended up last and or with low points. There were so many great songs from Turkey like “Di Dai Di Dai Dai (a'sik Oldum)” by MFÖ (#14) in 1985, “Sarkim Sevgi üstüne” by Seyyal Tanner and Lokomotif (#22) and “Yorgunum Anla” by Pinar Ayhan & S.O.S. Band (#10) in 2000. Since 1997, when Sebnem Parker came third with “Dinle”, televoting has accomplished, the Turks often get better positions and in the last few years, Turkey is always among the favorites. The entire four last years, Turkey qualified for the final and even more reached the Top 10! This is a very noteworthy change. The Turks have always sent huge Turkish stars to Eurovision, but now it can be honored through televoting. Many Turkish people live outside Turkey all around Europe and are likely to push their country in the final. The big victory brought Sertab Erener with “Everyway that I can” in 2003 – a well deserved win. The Turkish TV TRT has internally determined the Eurovision representative. Since years, TRT receives the approval that this method works well, due to the success. “Live it up” is a rock song, which is similar to former Turkish entries. Rock songs can be taken as guarantee of luck for Turkey “For Real” by Athena (#4) in 2004, “Deli” by Mor ve Ötesi (#7) and “We could be the same” by MaNga (#2) in 2010. So there is another rock song from Turkey, the audience likes it and this song will do well again. The band is quite popular in the home country, and now it’s the chance for an international career.
