 Spain belongs to the Big 5 countries, which means that they don’t have to qualify for the Eurovision final like France, Italy, United Kingdom and Germany, due to the fact that these countries pay the highest amount of participation fee. Spain has won the ESC twice with “La la la” by Massiel in 1968 and the following year 1969 with “Vivo Cantando” by Salomé. There were many unforgettable Spanish entries, which were very successful in the music charts like “Eres tu” by Mocedades in 1974 (#3) and “Su Canción” by Betty Missiego in 1979 (#2). Last year’s presentation of Daniel Diges “Algo Pequeñito” in Oslo has been disturbed by Jimmy Jump, a guy from Barcelona who is known for running into the picture during high media interest shows, he also appeared in the soccer world championship in South Africa, just before the final match Spain against The Netherlands took place. At Eurovision, Spain could present their song once more due to this disturbance. The Spanish TV TVE has established a new format for choosing the right entry for Eurovision this year. If this format is going to be successful, we will see in May. The procedure was a kind of casting show, and the singers had to sing former Eurovision songs before. The winning song “Que me quiten lo bailao” has been performed by several singers, and Lucia has been chosen to represent Spain at Eurovision. The song sounds like a happy holiday song, easy to listen and sing with. The video clip has been recorded during the Carnival season in Tenerife. Spain has won the wild card during the draw and the head of Spanish delegation has chosen #22 for the final. A very good position, also because of last year’s winner Lena, who also had the lucky number 22, and won it for Germany. In comparison to other Spanish entries, this is not the strongest. Maybe Spain needs more great ballads like in former years to get a good position. |
