 For Norway it’s going to be a kind of special anniversary, this year the Norwegian entry will be the 50th in history. Last year, Norway has been the host country of a real outstanding Eurovision Song Contest. For many people the ESC 2010 has been the most exciting evening of the year, with many good songs and in particular the interval act by Madcon “Glow” has enthused the entire Europe. This song has been played in all radio stations the whole summer long, and even now. But Norway has not always been that successful in history, ten times they got last, but on the other hand there were three victories: “Let det swing” by Bobbysocks in 1985, “Nocturne” by Secret Garden in 1995 and “Fairytale” by Alexander Rybak in 2009. Remember that there are still many countries which never won, but always participating like Portugal, Malta, Cyprus or Iceland. Unfortunately, the last year host country representative Didrik only came 20th with 35 points! The Norwegians have expected at least a Top 10 place. In some unlucky years, the host entries do not shape up very well, even if there are extra-points for the host country due to sympathy and thankfulness. The choice for Düsseldorf has been decided in a great TV event, which was running over weeks, like in Sweden and Finland called Melodi Grand Prix. The national final took place in the Oslo Spectrum in early February. The winner Stella Mwangi with her song “Haba Haba” might have been a surprise for many people from abroad. The song has nothing Norwegian at all, it’s African! “Haba Haba” is an uplifting and happy song, easy to sing along. This is absolutely not comparable with Shakira’s “Waka Waka”. Norway has recently tried to send an untypical Norwegian song to Eurovision “Ven a Bailar Conmigo” by Guri Schanke, with quite Mediterranean rhythm and melody, she did not pass the semi final in 2007. So is Stella going make it into the final? Due to the strong line-up in the first semi final, it will be a hard job for the Norwegian delegation to get the ticket for the final.
