 Lithuania had its debut in 1994 in Dublin with several other Eastern European countries. All newcomers at that year have been treated with great respect. The musical influence in the Eurovision Song Contest has been immense and the “old” participants have been challenged to keep up with the new standards. Unfortunately, Lithuania had not such a great start in 1994 and received unjustified zero points for the beautiful ballad “Lopsine Mylimai” by Ovidijus Vysniauskas. Nevertheless, this disappointment has not stopped the Lithuanians to bring good music year by year. This year is going to be the 12th time in history, when a Lithuanian song is being performed on a Eurovision stage in Düsseldorf. There were some really nice memorable Lithuanian songs like: “Strazdas “by Aiste Smilgeviciute (#20) in 1999, “Love or Leave “by 4Fun (#21) in 2007 and “Love” by Sasha son (#23) in 2009. Last year, the funny combo of InCulto could not make it into the final, that’s probably why the Lithuanians are going back to more classic notes this year and chose “C’est ma vie” by Evelina Sasenko. In the Lithuanian national final there were some more contemporary songs, “C’est ma vie” sounds like taken out of an unknown musical, completely sung in English, with a French title. This song mainly appeals to an elderly generation to get votes from. But this is Eurovision, where a mix of modern and old fashioned is possible and can be combined. “C’est ma vie” could surprise if the delegation utilize the technical stage effects to make a stunning performance. |
