Participant(s): Musiqq Song: Angel In Disguise Writer(s): Marats Ogleznevs Composer(s): Marats Ogleznevs |
In the short history of Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest there is one victory already. “I wanna“ by Marie N (#1) in 2002 has been the surprise winner in Tallinn, which nobody had on its list. Even the debut entry “My star” by Brainstorm (#3) in 2000 has been treated with higher interest. This year it will be the 12th time that Latvia is in the ESC. Due to some financial difficulties the participation has been in discussion. Knowing that Germany is a very important music market, many countries have chosen potential hit songs, of good quality, missing out in this year’s ESC would not be clever. In comparison to the other Baltic countries Latvia has not found a line, there were many strong and extraordinary songs, but also some weak entries with zero chances in the international field. Memorable Latvian entries were: “Hello from Mars” by F.L.Y. (#24) in 2003, “The war is not over” by Walter & Kazha (#5) in 2005 and “Questa Notte” by Bonaparte.lv (#16). In the Latvian national final “Angel in disguise” by Musiqq has convinced the Latvian audience the most. The song is a very contemporary and catchy song, a bit of electro and a bit of Brit Pop, with an awesome chorus. This song may get the most attention among the younger crowd; elderly people may struggle with it. There were some similar styled songs in the Estonian national final this year, as well as last year’s Estonian entry “Siren” by Malcolm Lincoln, which failed in the semi final already. Let’s hope that such a progressive and optimistic song makes it into the final and get a good position. Eurovision needs more like this!
