 Since 1961, Finland is taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest, so this year it will be the 45th entry in history. In former years, the Northern European country has not been shaping up very well, the best rank was #6 with “Tom Tom Tom” by Marion Rung in 1973. But everything changed when the monster rockers Lordi triumphed in the Athens ESC with “Hard Rock Hallelujah” back in 2006. In the following years, where the semi final was introduced Finland has been in the final four years in a row - so quite a success. Over the years there were many great songs from Finland. It must also taken into consideration that the winters are long, cold and dark. That’s what is also reflected in the Finnish music: Hard Rock, happy songs and folkloristic music. Unfortunately, all neighbour countries like Sweden, Norway, Russia and Estonia are a lot happier with their results at the end of the scoreboard. This year could be the chance for Finland for another time. The 20-years-old Paradise Oskar has been chosen with a great majority of more than 50% of the televoting in the national final. The song “Da Da Dam” looks like a funny title, but has the best and most topic message of all contributions “save our planet”. In regards of all the ecological problems in the moment this might touch people’s hearts. The singer’s real name is Axel Ehnström and took his pseudonym from one of Astrid Lindgren’s fairytales. The song is very melodic and simple, remember last year’s singer Tom Dice with “Me and my Guitar”, who came 6th in Oslo. Oskar’s song has a similar hook and will definitely do well in Düsseldorf.
